How to Store Cannabis Properly and Keep It Fresh All Summer
Summer heat and humidity are the enemies of good cannabis. Poor storage leads to dry, harsh flower, degraded potency, and in worse cases mould. A little care goes a long way towards keeping your product in peak condition through the warmer months.
Why Storage Matters
Cannabis degrades when exposed to:
- Heat — accelerates THC breakdown into less active compounds
- Light — UV exposure is one of the fastest ways to degrade potency
- Humidity — too high encourages mould, too low dries the flower out
- Air — excess oxygen speeds up the degradation process
The Ideal Storage Conditions
- Temperature between 15–21°C
- Relative humidity between 58–62%
- Dark environment away from direct sunlight
- Minimal air exposure
Best Storage Options
Airtight Glass Jars The gold standard for flower storage. Mason jars or purpose-made cannabis containers seal properly, don’t affect flavour, and are easy to find. Avoid plastic — it creates static and can affect trichomes over time.
Humidity Packs Small two-way humidity packs placed inside your jar maintain the ideal moisture level automatically. Particularly useful during summer when humidity fluctuates.
Cool Dark Locations A cupboard away from the kitchen or bathroom works well. Avoid windowsills, warm shelves, or anywhere near a heat source.
What to Avoid
- The freezer — trichomes become brittle and break off
